Technical challenges

From a geotechnical view the creation of new embankments on soft river sediments is are a challenge, regarding the stability and concerning settlement behavior, especially if a second sealing element has to be installed on the water-side of the slope surface (see Figure 1)

Due to stability problems (slope failure under the water side embankments) also comparatively large settlements always have to be expected and therefore also great shear deformations on the concrete slabs in the plane of the water side of the embankment can occur.

Goal of the construction of test sections will be to investigate the specific structural conditions in the construction, the stability and the deformation behavior of such embankments.
